"Well, I’m one of a kind, I get human interference from time to time, y’know, a mother looking to reconnect with her kids, a brother that died in the war. Ugh, I ignore that. This is about our deceased loved ones, the furry kind, or feathered, or what have you." |

The episode opens with Sammy arguing with an elementary school teacher, Ms. Bodenheimer, about the existence of gravity, but we never hear her voice. According to Ben, she also thinks that air is a satanic fairytale. Ben says that a college degree goes a long way in a small town. |
The boys discuss their guest for that evening, a lady named Miss Olivia DuPont. Neither of them had met her, but she had emailed the boys several times during the electrolocaust about a special gift of hers she wanted to share on the show. |
An ad for Mission Apparition plays. It’s a paranormal investigation show on Channel 13 starring Dan and Larry. Ben is annoyed because he hates the show and thinks they’re stupid. Sammy doesn’t think it sounds that bad, but they move onto their conversation with the self-professed medium and fan of the show, Olivia. She jokingly tells them to call her Golden Owl and makes hooting noises. The boys laugh awkwardly. Olivia DuPont is from a few towns over in Big Pine, not King Falls, and Ben gets excited because he used to go camping there. Olivia says that she knew she was a medium from a young age because her parents were vets and they lived above their office. She could hear lost souls constantly. She gets very offended when Sammy asks if she’s a psychic and insists she’s a medium—psychics are low-life charlatans, she says, and mediums are people with sixth senses so developed that a bridge to the other side is created. While she can talk to deceased humans, she focuses on dead pets. Sammy and Ben are quite confused. Olivia claims anyone could speak to human spirits if they tried, especially in King Falls which is brimming with activity. She says that even Sammy and Ben could probably do it. |
Golden Owl gets a message from Cassie the cow, who lived in a factory farm and is using Olivia to tell her story to the world. Sammy is still hesitant about going on with the interview but Olivia interrupts him by barking and howling before uttering the name “Wolfington.” Ben starts to suggest they should move on but Sammy interrupts him, asking Olivia for more description on the dog. She describes what she sees—a brown and black terrier—and Sammy excitedly proclaims that it’s his childhood puppy who ran away when he was in grade school. Olivia tells him that Wolfington says he’s fine and had a good life. Sammy is now convinced. Ben still thinks it’s a con. |
Olivia starts to see something else and it takes a minute for it to become clear, but eventually settles on a sugar glider named Serendipity. Ben is shocked by this because when he was a kid they found him in a box after a traveling zoo came through town. Ben gets upset and doesn’t want to talk about what happened to Serendipity. Sammy pulls up a picture “on the googs” and proclaims them adorable. Sugar gliders are illegal to own in the tri-state, and one of his “back-stabbing friends from school” tattled to Ms. Bodenheimer and Ben never saw him again. Olivia reluctantly tells him that Serendipity was taken by Sheriff Gunderson, and after he bit the Sheriff, was tossed out the window and into the river, where he died. As Ben steps out, they go to the phone lines and the first caller is Troy who says he has a confession to make. Troy admits he’s the reason Serendipity got taken away, but he didn’t know that was what was going to happen. He and Ben were “best buddies” growing up, but Bodenheimer cornered Troy, thinking Serendipity was his, and he spilled. Ben returns and hangs up on Troy, saying their friendship has already been sunk. |
Next on the phone is Ron. He suggests Olivia change the name Golden Owl. He asks if she can find Kingsie’s parents. She says that’s not her wheelhouse, but they could make an appointment. Ron is apparently not a fan of Twitter. |
