There is a commercial from Howard Ford Beauregard III requesting that all listeners immediately turn off the radio broadcast as King Falls AM is now run by “dirty, lying filth-mongers spreading rumors and disent throughout our peaceful community” (1:18), and says that Samuel Stevens and Benjamin Arnold should be proclaimed Public Enemy #1. He says “be well, compatriots”, and then demands Celestia end the transmission. Ben shrugs and says that ads pay the bills. They then takes some callers. |
An unidentified male caller dramatically states that he’ll never listen to the show again before hanging up. Next is Pete Meyers, who calls them muckrakers and says that King Falls had never been so torn apart before Sammy arrived. Ben recognizes it’s Pete calling in, despite Pete’s awkward denials, and reveals that he is actually HFB3’s gardener and by default probably has a very biased opinion. Before hanging up he quickly tells everyone to buy King of King Falls the ebook. The next call they get call has very poor reception and is filled with static and feedback. The boys ask the person to call back, but before they can hang up the caller identifies himself as Tim Jensen. “I’m alive… I’m okay… They’re doing operations on me, please help me…. I love my wife, Mary, I miss my kids… King Falls, please help me,” he says (4:25). The call ends abruptly. They call Troy, who was listening to the show in Rose’s Diner. Ben has texted him all the info he could on the call. This was the first contact anyone has seemingly had with Tim Jensen since his disappearance in episode one, exactly three months prior. The next caller is Cynthia who asks if it was really Tim on the air. Ben confirms and asks if she has any information on Tim. She does not and instead has concerns about him coming back. This is when Ben identifies her and she gets annoyed, both at his informal address—“It’s Mrs. Higgenbaum to you, Ben”— and the fact her information was broadcasted across the tri-state. Ben makes a reference to the X-Files. She doesn’t like the idea of Tim bringing back intergalactic diseases from aliens, such as Martian Measles, Pluto Pox, and Jupiter Jaundice. Ben and Sammy are not amused and reaffirm their stance that the most important thing is Tim’s safety. Cynthia mentions that she knows Tim personally and worked with him for a few years. |
They end the call with her and answer Mary Jensen’s call. She sounds very upset and tired. She talks about how hard it’s been without him and wants to thank the two of them for all they’ve done: they’ve called to check in on her weekly, made donations, and Ben even took the kids to the library so she could have some time to herself. Sammy makes a snarky comment about it being to the library specifically. She also comments on how the Jensen’s stand with the boys and their radio show. Tim loved Chet’s Jazz Corner and King Falls AM in general. Sammy thanks her for the kind words, and asks what she would tell Tim if he could hear her right now. She replies with: “We’re okay, Tim, please don’t worry about us… we are safe, we are home, but home isn’t home without you” (9:51). She also says she loves him and knows that one day he’ll be back with them and she can’t wait for that day but she will wait. Her kids seem to know the boys as Mr. Ben and Mr. Sammy. Their daughter comes on the phone, encouraged by Mary who says Tim is listening and called Ben and Sammy. She says she loves him and to please come home because she doesn’t want mommy to cry anymore. |
Mayor Grisham calls in, supposedly coming in peace in the aftermath of Tim reaching out. He thanks the boys for being there for Tim in his time of need. Ben doesn’t believe him, but Grisham asserts his motivations as only wanting a vehicle through which to address the town. They allow it. He assures the town that they’re doing everything they can to bring Tim back and that anyone with information should not take matters into their own hands, and should instead call the hotline. The audio fades out. |
