Episode Summary[]

Spoilers Ahead!
Doyle is on the phone lines at the start of the episode to talk about a portal leading into his bathroom. Late at night, it looks like shimmering and shining force around the doorway, and it takes him to a bathroom that looks different than this. He describes it as an alternate universe, where everything is reversed, like hot and cold. Ben is extremely irritated and tells Doyle that he’s stoned and sleepwalking. Doyle retorts that Ben is a naysayer and hangs up.
Ben reports that [Genie] Sherman is calling in from the King Falls Doggie Daycare with advice on how to break pets out of their “post-holiday funk”, much to Sammy’s bemusement. They have a free period because they blew through their holiday break news, mostly consisting of how resident Mrs. Baker failed to make the world’s largest gingerbread house after the Williams’ boys went in and ate parts of it.
Troy is on the line and Ben immediately tells him that they’re busy, but Troy knows that’s a lie. He asks to swing by the station and give Ben a present. Ben tells him to leave it at the door and go. At Sammy’s admonishment, he tacks on that Troy can say hi to Sammy first and then go. Sammy tells Troy that they’d love to have him hang out with them in the studio. Troy says that he’s already driving up and strange chittering noises can be heard in the background audio. Troy denies hearing anything and hangs up.
Before they can grab another caller, there’s a knock at the door. Troy has already arrived. Sammy gets up to go greet him and Ben cuts to commercial. Mayor Steven Grisham is advertising the King Falls Chamber of Commerce’s Best Small Town in America celebration, as King Falls has won for the seventh straight year.
Sammy is annoyed about having to help host that “rigged get together” after hearing the ad, which Ben mentions he had to help edit. Sammy didn’t know before that moment that the two of them would have to host. Ben realizes he forgot to tell Sammy that Merv had emailed saying they had to. Sammy doesn’t want to do it because he doesn’t like the Mayor. Troy and Ben tell him that it’s actually a pretty fun community celebration, but Sammy remains unconvinced. During their conversation, the audio is disrupted due to interference with the broadcast and new voices can be heard. Sammy, Ben, and Troy seem to be unaware of this occurrence. Howard Ford Beauregard III can be heard telling someone to “just make it work”. The other voice, a nervous and apologetic Mr. Thompson, points out that the last time they pushed “it” to the limit, it knocked the town off the grid for weeks. This is in reference to the electrolocaust from episodes 8 (Electrolocaust Now) and 9 (Jack in the Box Jesus). HFB3 tells Celestia to go wake the “yard-boy”, referring to Pete, to help Thompson move “the gadget” because he doesn’t want the “eyesore” in his east wing any longer. Thompson apologizes, saying it’s just not ready yet but he’s doing the best he can. HFB3 responds that Thompson needs to do more since he’s paying him a small fortune for his work. Pete arrives, admiring what HFB3 refers to as the “signal transmorgrifier” and asking if that’s what caused the electrolocaust.
The audio from the station broadcast fades back in. Ben relents to Troy’s presence in the studio, but doesn’t want to touch his late Christmas gift. Troy admits that he doesn’t think Ben should be opening it live on air and Ben retorts that he probably shouldn’t open it up at all. Sammy tries to diffuse the situation by directing them back to the callers. First is the now familiar but still unidentified Shotgun stalker-fan. Sammy is clearly not in the mood but the caller only points out that their frequency was hijacked. The boys are confused, asking if he’s tuned in properly, and the stalker-fan reports that he heard “sciency sounds” and just wanted to do a service to his “favorite AM station in the whole wide world”. The guy hangs up and Troy decides that he likes him.
The next caller is a man lost while driving. Sammy guesses Sweetzer Forest. The caller says that he used to live in King Falls, but General Abilene got to him. Ben is impressed and excited that Sammy got it right. Troy mentions how familiar the caller sounds, to which he responds that they might know him from his song in 2003 titled “She Ain’t Worth the Car She Drove Away In”. Ben and Troy excitedly recognize him to be the singer, Dusty Reynolds. They explain to Sammy that Dusty grew up in King Falls before moving away after graduation and became a very well-known country singer. At Ben’s request, he sings a short piece. Dusty says he’s given up the music business and wanted to come back home. Also, Mayor Grisham paid him for a gig at the upcoming Best Small Town Celebration. Him and his wife, Gloria, are splitting up because of an affair she was having with their pool boy. They welcome him back home and he sings them another short piece before hanging up.
As they’re reminiscing, Troy tries to segue that into a reconnection for him and Ben but Ben shuts it down immediately. Troy makes him a deal that if he doesn’t like his gift, they don’t ever have to speak again. Ben quickly accepts and Sammy tries to intervene, saying that’s a bit much for them to put an entire friendship on, but they both ignore him. Ben is still adamant that nothing will repair what happened. Troy believes Ben is making a mistake and goes to bring the box in. Troy repeats that Ben should probably open it off the air, but Ben insists. Sammy is concerned by the noises coming from the box and Ben notes how much the box is shaking. Troy says it’s normal according to Google. Sammy narrates as Ben steps away from his mic to open the box. Ben gets super excited. Troy is immensely proud of himself and Ben is in shock and very touched by the gift, admitting that him and Troy are definitely friends again. They’re wrapped up in their own conversation and forget to show Sammy, who is getting more and more antsy about not knowing, telling the audience “this is even worse than the briefcase from Pulp Fiction”. Ben even apologizes and hugs him. Sammy, fed up with no one telling him what’s in the box, goes to see it himself. Sammy doesn’t understand what he’s seeing. Ben reminds him of Serendipity, starting to say that Troy got him a sugar glider, but Troy quickly interrupts, calling the gift a cat, because sugar gliders are illegal as domesticated pets in their state. This new… cat is named Peas, as Troy was hoping Ben would give Peas (peace) a chance. Also partly because it loved to eat peas.
